The Bangladeshi Marine Community, Singapore (BMCS) recently hosted a highly successful seminar on the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) on January 28, 2024. The event, held at Hall 4, Devan Nair Institute of Employment and Employability [e2i] in Jurong East, Singapore, brought together experts and professionals from the maritime industry to discuss the critical aspects of the EU-ETS and its implications.
The seminar featured three distinguished speakers:
- Dr. Khorshed Alam, Senior Vice President of Maritec (CTI Group), provided insightful perspectives on the broader regulatory and environmental impact of the EU-ETS on the global maritime sector.
- Abu Hasan Rony, Energy Manager at Eaglestar Marine (S) Pte Ltd, shared practical insights and strategies for managing emissions within the framework of the ETS, highlighting real-world applications and challenges.
- Dominic Ng, Head of APAC at Det Norske Veritas (DNV), discussed the technical aspects and compliance requirements for maritime companies under the EU ETS, data collection and monitoring, offering guidance on best practices for adaptation and sustainability.
The event, running from 9 AM to 1 PM, was well-attended by maritime professionals, industry stakeholders, and members of the BMCS. It served as a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and fostering a deeper understanding of the EU ETS’s role in shaping the future of maritime emissions management.
