The history of sea trade and sailors’ dates back a few thousand years. Sailors carry a rich tradition of one of the oldest professions. During this long journey, a lot of issues have become extinct, lost or invisible, however, the profession of navigation has evolved throughout human civilisation.
This is a time when the pandemic had almost engulfed the progress of the world. Yet, the navigators persevere to fight selflessly against all formidable odds with Indomitable courage and strength to carry on with their profession, as ambassadors of goodwill throughout the world. Our heartfelt tribute to those brave seamen.
“Nongor” the bi-yearly Magazine of BMCS is coming to you with its intrinsic credence. Although BMCS is a professional organization, it has a social commitment too. To reflect that, “Nongor” has selected professional anecdotes and creative writings for publication both in Bengali and English.
The professional write-ups depict the everchanging-universal climate, alongside the topic of alternative fuel has become a relevant discussion in the articles. The color scheme of the cover page reflects the equidistance of the blue sky and the emerald seas that influence the energetic pulses of life itself. The rising sun reflects the light of hope and a bright future. This edition of “Nongor” has emphasised interesting discussions on upcoming rules and regulations, innovations such as unmanned ships, the introduction of female crews in Bangladesh, and unbound possibilities surrounding the marine industry and trade.
On the other hand, the creative writings include poems, and anecdotal references portraying the vulnerability of the pandemic leaving a deep scar on the human psyche. The kids’ writings are reflections of their tender hearts that find expressions on sensitive topics such as migration and the lives of refugees in a foreign land.
In this edition of “Nongor,” we have received write-ups from 4 different continents. The wholehearted contributions of the seamen and their family members will be able to interest our readers, as it will be a sharing of the writers’ thoughts of an illuminated world with hopes for enlightening the hearts.
This edition of “Nongor” has engraved its presence in the biggest canvas of time. The organising committee, sponsors and every other supportive hand has a contribution of their active participation to this year’s publication of “Nongor.” Our endless gratitude to these people, as they are a part of this successful outcome. The board of editors has put in their utmost for an accurate printout. Despite all, the errors that still exist are our shortcomings and our responsibilities only.
May our future days be filled with beauty and positivity.

নাবিক এবং নৌ-বাণিজ্যের যুগলবন্দী শুরুর ইতিহাস বহু হাজার বছরের। আর তাই নাবিকেরা ধারণ করছে পৃথিবীর প্রাচীনতম একটি পেশার ঐতিহ্য। এই সুদীর্ঘ পথ পরিক্রমায় কত কি হারিয়ে গেছে, বিলুপ্ত হয়েছে। তবে, সভ্যতার উন্মেষ ও বিকাশের হাতে হাত ধরে সাগরচারীদের এই মহান পেশা নিরবধি বহমান কাল থেকে কালান্তরে।
অতিমারীর রাহু যখন পৃথিবীর অগ্রযাত্রাকে প্রায় গ্রাস করে ফেলেছে, তখনও সেই রক্তচক্ষুর বিরুদ্ধস্রোতে ধরণীর প্রবহমান ধারার ধারাবাহিকতা ধরে রাখতে বিশ্বজুড়ে নাবিকেরা দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন অনমনীয় দৃঢ়তায়। এই অসম যুদ্ধে যে সকল নাবিক আত্মস্বার্থ ত্যাগ করে কাজ করে গেছেন, এমনকি প্রাণ পর্যন্ত উৎসর্গ করেছেন, তাঁদের জন্য অন্তরের শুদ্ধতম শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি আমাদের
বি এম সি এস – এর দ্বি-বার্ষিক প্রকাশনা “নোঙর”, করোনাকালীন দুঃসময় পেরোতেই সাময়িক বিরতির পর এ বছর আবারো ফিরে এসেছে, স্বকীয় প্রত্যয় নিয়ে। পেশাজীবী সংগঠন হওয়া সত্ত্বেও বি এম সি এস – এর সামাজিক দায়বদ্ধতা রয়েছে। আর তার প্রতিফলন ঘটাতেই, অন্যান্য সংখ্যার মতন এবারো এ প্রকাশনা ঋদ্ধ হয়েছে ইংরেজি এবং বাংলা দু’ ভাষায়, পেশাগত এবং সৃজনশীল লেখায়।
পেশাগত রচনায় গুরুত্বের সাথে সাথে উঠে এসেছে নিয়ত পরিবর্তনশীল পৃথিবীতে পরিবেশের প্রতি দায়বদ্ধতা এবং অতি প্রাসঙ্গিকভাবেই বিকল্প জ্বালানির সম্ভাব্যতা। এই সংকলনের প্রচ্ছদের রঙ বিন্যাসে যেই নীলাকাশ আর সবুজাভ সাগরের ব্যবহার এবং তার মাঝে উচ্ছল প্রাণের স্পন্দন, তাও আসলে সেই ভাবনারই বহিঃপ্রকাশ। আর উদিত সূর্যের মাঝে প্রতিভাত হয়েছে আশার আলো, উজ্জ্বল আগামী। আলোচিত হয়েছে পরিবর্তিত পৃথিবীতে আলোর মুখ দেখার অপেক্ষায় থাকা নতুন নতুন বিধি, মনুষ্যবিহীন জাহাজের মতন নব্য সব বিষয়। আছে এই পেশায় বাংলাদেশের নারীদের উন্মেষ এবং নৌ-শিল্প ও বাণিজ্য বিকাশের অপার সম্ভাবনার কথা।
সৃষ্টিশীল লেখার গল্পে, কবিতায়, ব্যক্তিগত অনুভবের প্রকাশে বারংবার উঠে এসেছে অতিমারীর মুখোমুখি হবার ভয়াল স্মৃতি, মনের গভীরে এর গাঢ় পদচিহ্ন রেখে যাবার কথা। শিশুদের কচিমনের ভাবনায় বিস্ময় নিয়ে কখনো ফুটেছে শেকসপিয়ারের ভাষা, কখনোবা উদ্বাস্তুদের জীবন অথবা অভিবাসনের মতন গভীর সংবেদনশীল বিষয়।
এবারো লেখা এসেছে চারটি মহাদেশ থেকে। নাবিক এবং তাদের পরিবারের সদস্যরা কল্পনার দ্বার খুলে দিয়ে লিখেছেন আগ্রহভরে। পেশাগত এবং সৃজনশীল – দু’টো বিভাগেই তারা ছড়িয়েছেন আলোর দ্যুতি! পাঠকের সাথে ভাগাভাগি করে নিয়েছেন নিজস্ব ভাবনার জগৎ।
এ যাবৎ কালের সবচেয়ে বড় ক্যানভাসে উৎকীর্ণ এবারের নোঙর। ব্যবস্থাপনা পর্ষদ, পৃষ্ঠপোষক এবং সকল সহযোগীগণ এ প্রকাশনার প্রতিক্ষেত্রে সাহায্যের হাত বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছেন। সবার প্রতি আমাদের অন্তহীন কৃতজ্ঞতা। এ সংখ্যার সাফল্যের ভাগীদার তাঁরা সবাই। সম্পাদনা পর্ষদ আন্তরিক চেষ্টা করেছেন একটা ত্রুটিমুক্ত প্রকাশনা সম্মানিত পাঠককে উপহার দিতে। তারপরও সৃষ্টির নিয়মেই যা কিছু ভুলভ্রান্তি থেকে গেছে, তার দায়ভার একান্তই আমার, আমাদের।
আগত দিনগুলো সবার জন্য শুভ হোক। সুন্দর হোক।
